MICROBE Workshop "ELSI in microbiome Biobanking research"

Ethical, legal, and social issues (ELS) are important to tackle within microbiome biobanking and research. Therefore, our project beneficiary MUG organized this online workshop to discuss relevant issues in microbiome biobaning and to pave the way for "Guiding principles for the human and veterinary use of microbiomes".  In the first part of the workshop the outcomes of the conducted qualitative, semi-structured expert interviews as a basis for the workshop and also for a joint publication on ELSI in microbiome biobanking were discussed. The topics covered liability risks, in particular to donors' privacy, the risks of microbiome sampling procedures, and the potential risks of releasing pathogens into the environment.
